The Economics of Devil Power

Devil contracts operate on brutal economics: power must be paid for. Body parts are common currency. Himeno gave her right eye, Aki offered years, Denji sold organs before the series began. This commodification of the human body reflects how systems of power treat lives as expendable resources.

Lifespan as Currency

Lifespan is the most traded resource. The Curse Devil demands years for guaranteed kills. The Angel Devil drains lifespan through touch. The series' preoccupation with shortened lifespans creates pervasive mortality awareness where every character lives on borrowed time.

The Ultimate Price

Total sacrifice trades a life for a single devastating action. Himeno's death for the Ghost Devil's manifestation. Prisoners sacrificed for the Punishment Devil. These sacrifices are often futile: Himeno's Ghost Devil was immediately consumed, making her death the series' most poignant tragedy of the contract system.
